BlackAttack: The Field Trips

BlackAttacks were developed in 2018 to accommodate the damnd for participation.

Community field trips where a large group of Black People present themselves publicly. This was started because of the growth in popularity and notoriety of our Happenings within the community.

BlackAttacks are planned with multiple goals in mind: to provide access to venues and events that have historically presented barriers to participation; to change the complexion of audiences; to bring Black faces to Black artists who rarely see large groups of us in larger venues; to coordinate opportunities for guests to connect directly with the artists.

Past events have included: a private after-hours tour of the Kerry James Marshall Exhibit at the Rennie Museum; attendance at the International touring show of the Australian Black and Indigenous artists of Hot Brown Honey at the York Theatre combined with a post-show talkback and photoshoot; and attendance at performances by the international touring show “Black Like Me” hosted by the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

Through these partnerships, we have been able to expose groups of 30-60 people at a time to free arts & cultural entertainments that are relevant to their lives, and which reflect their bodies and lived experiences
